POP Alerts

There is some federal legislation purporting to respond to the recent devastating fires in the West that are coming before Congress. According to Brenna Bell at BARK, there is actually a really good bill, but also an awful one, and two that are very mixed. BARK is currently looking for groups to sign-on to this letter, and I thought this is something that POP should take a look at. BARK has been a strong advocate for science-based forest policy in Oregon. Here is a link to the letter -

Please take a moment to read it and click here to send me an email at YES if you think POP should sign on, or NO if you think POP should not sign on to this letter.

One Month Out - Join a Phone Bank

Hey, POPPERS! We have one month from today to turn out enough voters to elect a new president, flip the Senate, and turn some critical state houses from red to blue. The importance of the state houses is becoming clear as we learn that some Republican controlled state houses are trying to find ways to chose loyal electors who will elect Trump, regardless of the outcome of the election. We have to win this by a landslide. If you have some extra time today, click this link - - and choose your favorite swing state to make some phone calls. Yeah, it's not the best way to spend an afternoon, but it's better than four more years of you-know-who. If you do a phone bank, send me an email and let me know how it goes! Thanks everyone, for all you are doing!

Dan Needs Some Walkers

Hey Poppers, join me and other volunteers in a "lit drop" for Dan Richardson for The Dalles City Council. Here's a message from Dan....

Hi friends, thanks for your help with my and others' efforts during this election season. While the national election is tinged with madness, it seems, our local government races are pretty neighborly, and are important.

I'm writing to ask for your help getting the word out to our fellow The Dalles residents. Later this month, we'll be doing a couple bouts of sign-waving. But first, I'm asking for some people to help me pass out flyers in neighborhoods. We'll be hanging them on doorknobs, but not knocking and talking with people. Think socially distanced campaigning with a companion, walking for a couple hours in the fresh air of a beautify autumn morning or afternoon.

Flyer-hanging days are Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10. We'll walk in shifts at 10am and again at noon, for about 1.5 or 2 hours at a time, in neighborhoods around town.

Can you help for one (or more!) of those shifts? Even a single shift walking and hanging flyers will be very helpful, and very appreciated.

What: Dan Richardson's city council campaign -- flyer outreach

Who: You? I hope so! -- and bring a friend, if possible, but if not, come yourself, we'll pair you up with someone. Bring two or three friends, if you like: Many hands make light work.

Where: The Dalles City Park, downtown, look for a portable shelter that we'll set up as a "headquarters."

When: Please show up 10-15 minutes early ... so, show up at 9:45ish for the 10am shift, or 11:45ish for the noon shift.

RSVP: Yes, please email me or call me (541-238-2883), as soon as you know you're coming, so I can prep supplies and such.

PS: If you're not free either Friday or Saturday but willing to help with this, let me know that, too, please, in case there are a couple early shifts we arrange for Thursday.

Emergency Request

We are just learning that Ruth Bader Ginsburg has passed away. This tragedy is two-fold.
We have lost a real hero. And we face the terrible prospect that Trump, aided by hypocrite McConnell, will try to appoint a conservative justice in the days before the election. Indivisible is asking us all to call our senators immediately and ask them to insist that there is no Supreme Court nomination or hearings until after the inauguration in January 2021.
