The Tax Scam Passed the Senate. What Now?

Republicans have jammed the Trump Tax Scam through the Senate, by a vote of 51-49. It’s hard to imagine how this bill could be worse: not only does it give massive tax cuts to the rich and corporations, it also allows drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, exacerbates growing inequality, and adds $1 trillion to the deficit—which will force deep cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security down the road.

Action Items from ORD2 Indivisible for week of 11/26/17

The GOP is trying to ram the Tax Scam through Senate, survive Democratic actions to derail it, and reconcile its version with House’s bill. They will also need to seek another short-term continuing resolution to fund government until year-end—when Congress must also deal with the debt ceiling increase to avoid early January default. Since neither bill can pass without Democratic votes, the Democrats must force inclusion of these priorities:

Please find some time to thank Senators Wyden and Merkley for their indefatigable work pushing back against the morally bankrupt Trump administration.

Together, we have accomplished so much this past year. We are hopeful for what we can accomplish next.

Have a wonderful holiday!

The House and Senate GOP tax plans are like Tweedledum and Tweedledee where it matters most:

Indivisible To-Do List for the week of 11/13/17

1. Call Walden and voice your opposition to a tax cut for the rich. The House could hold a key vote on Wednesday or Thursday. The non-partisan Tax Policy Center says that taxpayers in the top 1 percent (those with income more than $730,000) would receive nearly 21 percent of the total tax cut. Let’s light up those phone lines!
